Founded in 2011, the Institute for Intercultual Theology and Interreligious Studies (IITIS) is a institution of the Protestant University Wuppertal/Bethel.
It stands under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Henning Wrogemann (Lehrstuhl für Religionswissenschaft und Interkulturelle Theologie an der Kirchlichen Hochschule Wuppertal/Bethel) and Dr. John Flett (Coordinator of Studies – Missiology at Pilgrim Theological College, part of the University of Divinity in Melbourne, Australia).
In close relationship with the United Evangelical Mission (UEM), it promotes the following tasks:
- Support of young Christian leaders in the field of intercultural relations through academic education and intercultural encounter in the continents of Africa and Asia.
- Using cultural studies, the science of religion, and missiology, it reflects upon the Christian lifewitenss taking place in different cultural contexts, and does this through regular discipline specific conferences.
