Prof. Dr. Henning Wrogemann

Dr. theol. habil. Henning Wrogemann holds the chair for Mission Studies, Comparative Religion and Ecumenics at the Protestant University Wuppertal /Bethel (Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal / Bethel), Germany.

Born in 1964, Dr. Wrogemann served as a pastor in northern Germany between 1996-2002 (Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover), as the senior lecturer for missiology and comparative religion at the Mission Seminary Hermannsburg (2002-2007), and as a member of the mission board of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower-Saxony, Germany (2005-2007). Research and Guest lectures (1988-2018) in different countries in Africa (among other: DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Central-African Republic) and Asia (among other: Indonesia, Pakistan).

In 2007, Dr. Wrogemann was appointed Professor at the Protestant University Wuppertal/Bethel. He also heads the Institute for Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies (IITIS) at the Protestant University Wuppertal / Bethel (see www.iitis.de) and is Chairman of the German Society for Mission Studies (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Missionswissenschaft, DGMW).

In 1995, he was awarded Doctoral degree (Dr. theol.) through the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg, followed in 2005 by the Doctoral habilitation degree (Dr. habil.) also at the Ruprechts-Karls University of Heidelberg.

  • His three volume Textbook on Intercultural Theology / Mission Studies is the most comprehensive introduction to the field in German language.

  • Henning Wrogemann is Chairman of the German Society for Mission Studies (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Missionswissenschaft).
