Prof. Dr. Henning Wrogemann

Dr. theol. habil. Henning Wrogemann holds the chair for Science of Religion and Intercultural Theology at the Protestant University Wuppertal /Bethel (Kirchliche Hochschule Wuppertal / Bethel), Germany.

Born in 1964, Dr. Wrogemann served as a pastor in northern Germany between 1996-2002 (Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover), as the senior lecturer for missiology and comparative religion at the Mission Seminary Hermannsburg (2002-2007), and as a member of the mission board of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower-Saxony, Germany (2005-2007). Research and Guest lectures (1988-2018) in different countries in Africa (among other: DR Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Central-African Republic) and Asia (among other: Indonesia, Pakistan).

In 2007, Dr. Wrogemann was appointed Professor at the Protestant University Wuppertal/Bethel. He also heads the Institute for Intercultural Theology and Interreligious Studies (IITIS) at the Protestant University Wuppertal / Bethel (see www.iitis.de) and from 2015 to 2019 served as Chairman of the German Society for Mission Studies (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Missionswissenschaft, DGMW).

In 1995, he was awarded Doctoral degree (Dr. theol.) through the Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg, followed in 2005 by the Doctoral habilitation degree (Dr. habil.) also at the Ruprechts-Karls University of Heidelberg.

  • His three volume Textbook on Intercultural Theology / Mission Studies is the most comprehensive introduction to the field in German and English language.
